I sat down with Callum Fowler, a fast-rising voice in English Football League (EFL) content creation. With over 31,000 YouTube subscribers, his channel delivers detailed analysis, match predictions, and reviews that strike a chord with EFL fans. In this interview, Callum opens up about his journey, content philosophy, and where football media is headed.
You started your journey on Tiktok and made the transition to YouTube, where your channel has seen significant growth. What inspired you to start creating EFL-focused content? What prompted the shift from TikTok to Youtube?
Callum:
At the time I started my TikTok it was during the height of lockdown, so mainly it was something to keep me entertained and my mind focused, but I always envisioned something long term when I started, somewhere people could just focus on football.
I want to enjoy my job and football is the field I’ve always wanted to be involved in and YouTube gave me a more community driven place to show my passion.
Your videos cover a wide range of topics, from match predictions to season reviews. How do you decide on the content you produce?
Callum:
I create the kind of content I’d want to sit back and watch myself.
The same thoughts guide everything I do, from the topics I cover to the colours in the background.
It’s not about chasing clicks or trends; it’s about passion. I stick to what excites me, and if viewers connect with that authenticity, then I’ve done my job right.
Engaging with fans is a big part of your channel. What common questions or themes do you notice from your audience?
Callum:
One of the most common things I hear is, “When’s the podcast dropping?” people really want more content, in any form.
There’s a constant push from the audience for me to expand, which is both flattering and motivating.
And then there’s the classic: “Why are Barnsley still in League One?” That one never fails to pop up... and honestly, I’m still trying to figure it out myself.
Consistency is key in content creation. How do you maintain a regular upload schedule, and what challenges do you face?
Callum:
I keep a running list of video ideas to stay ahead and avoid scrambling last minute.
Recently, I’ve started scheduling content in advance, which takes the pressure off and helps me stick to a steady pace.
The biggest challenge is balancing quality with consistency, making sure I don’t just pump out videos, but deliver something worthwhile every time
Your analysis often includes detailed statistics and insights. What resources or tools do you use to gather information?
Callum:
I wouldn’t call myself overly analytical, more opinion driven than data led.
I watch as much football as possible and the highlights of all top 3 leagues every game.
I use certain apps that are visually appealing so it’s easier to explain a point, but more often than not I just say what I think is right regardless of analytics or stats.
Collaboration can be beneficial for growth. Have you partnered with other creators or brands, and how have those experiences been?
Callum:
I’ve teamed up with other creators, mostly on their channels, because on my own page, collaborations sometimes trigger backlash from my audience. Still, I enjoy it, it’s a great way to introduce myself to new viewers who might not find me otherwise.
As for brands, I’ve had a mix of experiences, some partnerships clicked and delivered results, others less so. It’s a learning curve, but each one adds value in different ways.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the channel, and how do you plan to evolve your content?
Callum:
I’m focusing on doing more live sessions, they’re far more interactive and offer deeper analytical value.
I’ve committed to some formats for the full season, but I’ll tweak or pivot once that wraps up.
Long term, I don’t overthink it, I have a general idea of where I am going but I take it week by week, prioritizing enjoyment over rigid strategy. That way, the content stays fresh and authentic and I get to keep enjoying myself!
For brands interested in collaborating, what value does your channel offer, and how do you ensure partnerships align with your audience?
Callum:
I try to make ads/promotions worth watching, I’ve been credited by both brands and my audience before for doing it.
Reading straight from a script is easy to skip, if integrated well ads can be beneficial to both brand and creator.
My main inspiration for this is Chris MD, who has ads that are edited to the same level as his videos and are engaging all the way through. Obviously less budget with myself but the thought is what counts.
